The Partnership
TK was introduced to Lani through a who was attending one of Lani's entrepreneur groups. The friend’s description of Lani stuck with TK: "She's an absolute bulldog."
The first thing Lani did was establish proper company structure. "She got us set up correctly and got all that sorted," TK recalls. This foundational work proved invaluable almost immediately when a business dispute arose.
"If we hadn't had Lani, hadn't set that up, we would have been screwed," TK says frankly. The legal protections Lani had put in place meant TK could weather the storm without losing sponsorships or reputation.
But Lani didn't stop at crisis prevention. When the membership platform development had dragged on for six months without completion, Lani took decisive action. She implemented Kajabi and had the entire platform operational in just 2-3 days. The contrast was stark and showed TK what efficient, expert execution looked like.
What sets Lani apart, according to TK, is her ability to anticipate problems before they arise. "She thinks of things that we don't," he explains. "If you're a budding entrepreneur or a guy starting out in business, she's going to save you a lot of heartache."
Despite being a young woman working with a seasoned fisherman with over 40 years in a traditionally male industry, there was never any hesitation on TK's part. "I did a little bit of research on her and you could see she was on point from the get-go, so I had no reservations working with Lani at all."
Lani also helped TK and his son Cam develop a strategic approach to their content. Instead of just TK's commercial fishing exploits, they created a dual presence covering both commercial and recreational fishing. "We now have Cam doing the recreational side of it," TK explains. "I've basically got followers from both camps."
This strategic thinking extended to securing major sponsorships. Working together, Lani and Cam secured sponsorship for a $400,000 trailer boat and got TK and Cam onto the pro staff for Shimano, one of the world's leading tackle companies. "We've managed to obtain major sponsorships through Cam and Lani working together," TK notes.
But perhaps what TK values most about working with Lani is her accountability. "She does have expectations," he says. "If we were slacking off - and we have been a bit lately - she cracks into us." Lani has made it clear that if clients aren't showing initiative orputting in effort, she won't waste her time with them.
"It's quite an honour to have her representing us," TK reflects, "because if you are slacking off, not showing the initiative she expects out of her clients, I think she'd drop you like a hot potato."
